Full Meaning of OND

OND means Ordinary National Diploma. OND is usually awarded by polytechnics after you have completed a two-year program there.

After you are done with OND and you want to further your education, then you apply for admission into the same or another polytechnic for HND which means Higher National Diploma or you can just apply for admission into the University for a Bachelor’s Degree.

Is OND and ND The Same thing or Different things?

Well The full meaning of OND is Ordinary National Diploma and the full meaning of ND is National Diploma.

OND and ND are the same things. It’s just that OND is the former name, it was just changed from OND to ND.

Is OND a Degree?

Well OND is not a Degree, it is awarded by a Polytechnic while a degree is awarded by a University.

When you have completed your studies at an OND level and you want to proceed to any University in Nigeria, you don’t need to write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Exam (UTME) that is normally conducted by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB).

All you need to do is just register for JAMB Direct Entry. and the University Post UTME registration. You might be asked by the University to write an aptitude test.

Well, writing of Post UTME Exam depends on the University. Some universities might ask you to write while some don’t.

If you apply with an OND certificate, you will be given admission to 200 level direct. You won’t be required to start from 100 level.

You can also look for employment opportunities in Companies, Government Agencies but know that your payments won’t be much. So it’s advisable to further your education after your OND.
