The Nigeria Navy was established in 1956. It is the branch of the Nigerian Armed Forces that protects the country’s territorial waters. The Nigerian Navy has played a significant role in the country’s history. They also played an important role in the Nigerian Civil War.
The Nigeria Naval Universities offer a limited number of admissions. The Universities offer a wide range of undergraduate programs, and graduates of the university are given a bachelor’s degree certificate.
You will be given academic and military training in these universities during your study.

The Nigerian Defense Academy
The Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) was established on 5 February, 1964. They are located in Kaduna State; It was formerly known as the Nigeria Military School.
This academy is responsible for training the armed forces recruits, including The Armed Forces, The Air Force, and the Navy. They offer a wide range of courses, which include sciences, engineering, social sciences, and humanities.

The list of courses offered by the Nigeria Defense Academy includes Accounting, Biological Science(s), Biotechnology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, Electrical / Electronics Engineering, French, Geography, History, Intelligence and Security Studies, Management, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Physics, Political Science and Defence Studies, Psychology, Transport and Logistics Management, Cyber Security, and Military Science.
They admit officer cadets into their annual regular course. The duration of the course is five years. Those admitted are trained both academically and in military training.
Navy Cadet Officers who graduated from the Nigerian Defense Academy are awarded a Bachelor’s degree and commissioned as officers of the Nigerian Navy to the rank of Midshipman.
Nigerian Naval Engineering College
Nigerian Naval Engineering College was founded in 1982. They were established to produce technical manpower in sufficient numbers and the right quality to meet the Nigerian Navy’s (NN) engineering requirements.

They are previously located at Port Harcourt in Rivers State before the acquisition of the former Sapele port by the Nigerian Navy. They are currently located in Sapele in Delta State.
Like the other naval colleges, those who successfully graduate from this college are awarded a Bachelor’s degree and commissioned into the Nigerian Navy.
The Nigerian Naval College, Onne
The Nigerian Naval College Onne is the third school on our list of Navy Universities in Nigeria. It was established on 25 September 1981. They are responsible for training Naval Officer Cadets, both military and academically.
They are located at Onne in Rivers State. According to them, the college was deliberately situated in Onne in Rivers State to enable cadets to adapt and appreciate the dynamics of the maritime environment.
They offer engineering and technological courses that are relevant to the Navy. Those who graduate from this university are awarded with degree certificates and commissioned to the force.
Nigerian Navy School of Health Sciences (NNSHS) Offa
Nigerian Navy School of Health Sciences (NNSHS) Offa was established in 1984. It was previously known as the Nigerian Navy Medical Staff Training School (MSTS) before the name was changed in 2021.
The school was established to train navy personnel in various health fields to support the Nigerian Navy health department.

The list of courses offered by the Nigerian Navy School of Health Sciences (NNSHS) Offa includes Basic Medical Qualifying Course Physiotherapy Technician, Environmental Health – ND/HND, Pharmacy Technician, Medical Laboratory Technician, Radiography Technician, Health Information Management – ND/HND, and Dental Therapy – ND/HND.
After completing the course, you will be awarded your certificate in the field of study.
