When you want to change any details about yourself like Name, Date of Birth, Phone Number, etc. on your NIN (National Identity Number) then you need to make payment to NIMC (National Identity Management Commission) through Remita.

We will be looking at the steps for generating and making payments to NIMC using Remita, but before we do, let us know what NIMC and Remita are.

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is a Nigerian Government Organization responsible for registering and managing the country’s national Identity Management system.

Remita is an online payment platform that acts as a middleman in the collection of funds that are payable to all Federal Government Agencies from individuals and sending them to the Treasury Single Account.

How to Generate Remita for NIMC (National Identity Management Commission)

This are the steps to follow when you want to Generate Remita for NIMC payment.

Go to Remita Website at https://remita.net/ and click on Bills and Purchases

Click on Pay Billers

After the site is loaded up, fill out the form as follows

  • Who Do You Want to Pay:   You should insert “National Identity Management Commission”
  • Name of service/purpose: Here you select the type of correction you are making payment for like Change of Date of Birth or Modification of any other field other than Date of Birth, NIN Slip Reprint.
  • Amount: The amount is automatically inserted for you as you select the name of service/purpose for some certain type of payment while for others you have to manually type them yourself.
  • Payer’s Name: Here you type in your Full Name (Surname, First Name, Middle Name).
  • Payer’s Phone: You Type in your Phone Number.
  • Payer’s Email: Here you provide your email address.

After completing the form, you click on the submit button.

Select the payment option you want to use. The available options are Card, Bank Transfer, USSD, Bank Branch, and Internet Banking.

Card: If you want to use your ATM Card, you will be required to provide your Card Number, expiration date, and CVV(This is the three-digit number at the back of the card). After filling out the form, click on pay. You will be sent a One time password (OTP) to your phone, Type in the OTP and complete the payment.

Bank Transfer: An account number will be provided to you so that you can transfer the money. After making the transfer, click on I’ve sent the money.

Note that when you are using this payment method you should transfer the exact amount displayed on the screen to avoid complication. For example, if you are to transfer 1,201.63, do not transfer 1,200 or 1,202. Send the exact amount and do not approximate the amount.

USSD: Select your bank name and type in the USSD code on your phone using the phone number that is registered to your bank account (The number you use in receiving alert notifications from the bank), and click on continue. After making the payment click on, I’ve completed this payment.

Bank Branch: This process is long and stressful. Here you are to copy the RRR Number and go to any commercial bank to make the payment.

Internet Banking: You are to copy the RRR Number and head to your Internet banking portal to make the payment.

After Making the payment, print the Remita RRR Receipt and proceed to the NIMC office to complete the correction.

What Details Can I edit on my NIN (National Identity Number)

There are details you can pay and edit while there are some details that can’t be edited. You can edit your Name or the arrangement of your name, Date of Birth, Contact and Residential Address, Phone Number, Place of Birth, and State of Origin.

What are the Details that Cannot be edited?

According to NIMC, the details that cannot be edited include the NIN number itself, Biometric, and signature.

How much does it Cost to change your NIN details?

The cost for changing or updating your NIN details is 500 (Five hundred) Naira with the exception of Date of Birth which is 15,000 (Fifteen Thousand) Naria which will paid through remita. Also, the cost for printing your ID card is 416.88 Naira for the standard version and 1,039.38 for the premium version.
